For the last five years, I have traveled the majority of the 66-mile long Delaware Raritan Canal by foot; in the last three years, I have become increasingly aware of the historic significance of this canal. Immigrant laborers dug this canal by hand over a four-year period. Today, countless nature lovers, walkers, runners and bikers use the canal and trail that runs along side it. It is a place steeped in history, where nature and eclectic man made artifacts happily coexist.
Originally built as a way to transport goods from Philadelphia to NYC, it now depicts an environment that somehow seems far removed from our everyday life. These photographs explore various sections of the canal. Despite the fact that there are no people in any of the images, a human presence is pervasive.
